[Sussex] Black screen while booting after new kernel compilation

Yesterday I build my first kernel :o)
Before I used the 2.4.6 kernel, and now all (ahem) works fine with a 
2.6.8 one.

My only problem is that after displaying the Lilo screen, my PC starts 
booting "in black". I mean that I can no more see anything during the 
boot time, until KDE starts. And it is the same problem when I shut down 
my computer.

Any idea ?
