My preferred mix .. and I can post a how to on this is as follows.

1. build a LDAP server to handle the Mozialla Address Schema to provide 
a Addressbook
2. configure an Apache WebServer with mod_dav to provide WebDav Features 
for ical format files.
3. build a Exim mail server with virtual domains and Maildir format delivery
4. configure couirier or dovecot imap server for Maildir and Imap format 
delivrey including shared mail folders
5. install Mozilla Thunderbird with the Calendar Extension
6. configure Mozilla to use the LDAP Server for Address Book entries
7. configure Mozilla calendar to use the Calendar extensions to build 
Shared Calendar files.
8. configure a perl script to grab/shunt mail deliveries and reception 
to examine the Ldap Addressbook
9. configure a Web interface to the Global Addressbook and phpIcal for 
Web based calendars
10. sit back and look like a smig git as the system scales and grows and 
works robustly enough
