Ronan,

Just done a bit of investigating. There is kernel support for the Intel 
865g chipset under:

Device Drivers
   ---> Graphics Support
     ----> Intel 835g/845g/855g/865g chipset support (EXPERIMENTAL)

You could try:

modprobe intelfb

on your work PC to see if it's available as a module under Ubuntu. If 
not I guess you're going to have to recompile your kernel.

However, if the Intel situation is similar to the nVidia one, you will 
not get all the features from the open source driver, and you may prefer 
the Intel one. More on that here:
