[Sussex] Load Balancing

Hi
  Does anyone have any links or help with setup a Linux box (distro would
be Debian or Slack) as a load balancer.  I looked at hardware balancers
but saw the prices of them!

Is it possible - I am sure it must be! to setup a box to effectively act
as load balancing server with maybe 4 or 6 network cards in?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated
