This suggests that your USB system is not detecting the device at all,
just as you said. This lsusb listing suggests that your PC doesn't have
much in the way of USB devices - is it a notebook PC? Is your XDA
plugged into a PC Card USB controller?

..and sadly I'm not in a position to enlighten you much, but it's not
relevant to USB or SynCE.

You'll need to get the USB stuff sorted before progressing. There are
also a number of items to compile into the kernel to support the XDA as
well, but I'll cover those later.
