[Sussex] Screen capture

OK I know how to do this on Window but not a clue for Linux.

I need to be able to grap video images from Linux screen and transfer it
to video file.  This is a capture of actions on screen which happened to
.avi file.

So do you know how this is done on Linux? also if know how done on Mac
would be interested to know of as well.
