I reckon we've suggested pretty much every standard distro (except
slackware) going, so my conclusion is that it doesn't really matter
which one you use.

Just install something and start playing!

P.S. Don't worry too much about dual boot damaging stuff: the only
dangerous bit is specifying partitioning, so just be careful you don't
blat your windows partition there. Good luck!
