[Sussex] SuSE 9.3 problems solved (I think)

Well, since I re-installed this distro "thisarvo", I'd actually had to
reformat my /home as well. So my master plan of being able to keep all
my data i.e. e-mail addresses, mp3's, customisations, etc etc was all
for nothing.

I still haven't worked out why I was having problems with some of my
browser/mail apps. When I re-installed, just in case it was connected in
someway, as well as re-formatting, I also unchecked the apparently
default option of ACL for the partitions.

By changing the install sources I've managed to get the up to date
firefox and thunderbird. The opera was a little different, the SuSE
sources are still listing opera 7.54 as current, so I had to download
the SuSE rpm from the opera site, then tell "it" to use the downloaded
package as a "YAST source" and then install with YAST. A little curious,
but it seems to have worked.

I'm presuming that most of my problems are "unfamiliarity" with the way
SuSE works - It's been alledged that it's supposed to be as easy as
Mandriva, maybe ?

The various packages seem to be more up to date than mandriva 2005LE,
whether thats because Novell have chucked the readies at SuSE or whether
it always was more up to date is anyones guess.

Still, I don't care. It's all working (for the moment).

regards

John D.

p.s. thanks for Andrew bringing the Star Wars Revelations to the moot. V
interesting. Thats the first time I've seen such a "derivative" like
that i.e. one thats not been made by the original producer/director etc.
Also good too see everyone again, especially as I don't get to too many
of the moots!
