TO be honest Mike, I haven't had time to look in depth - I just
happened to have a C++ performance testing suite kicking around from
comparing GCC to Intel's compiler.

Mudflap does sound great and a sensible way forward. Transparently
adding code always makes me a little nervous though (is it going to work
without introducing bugs?). I also assume this will have an adverse
effect on compile times (though I've not tested that aspect at all)
which would be a pain if it's a significant amount.

For those who don't know what Mudflap is:

I will be using GCC 4 pretty heavily over the next couple of months so
I'm sure

I will report back on anything else I discover as and when I get there
:-)
