[Sussex] Events next week

There are a couple of events on next week in London that could be 
interesting.  Both are free but need a registration email in advance.


(1) SocialSource 2005: A one-day event examining the potential of Free/Open 
Source Software (F/OSS) for the Voluntary/Non-profit sector will be taking 
place in London on Wednesday 9 November 2005.

Speakers include:
* Ed Downs from the National Computing Centre, explaining their Open-Source 
related activities as part of the ChangeUp programme
* Mark Taylor from the Open Source Consortium (OSC) describing their 
activities since launch last year.
* Ian Lynch from Schoolforge (and several other initiatives), in a session 
about Open Source in education, which includes Randy Metcalfe from OSS 
Watch (the initiative looking at OSS for the Higher Education sector).



(2) TITLE: 'Programming for a Large-Scale Infrastructure'
SPEAKER: Dr Knut Magne Risvik,   Engineering Director, Google

SUMMARY: Having to process petabytes of data sounds hard, but it's easier 
than you may think, and more affordable too. In this talk we will describe.....
