Simon, I must thank you for bringing to my attention my misuse of the
apostrophe within it's. The subject field should indeed have read
'Gnupg and its use'. I promise I shall soundly thrash myself with a
damp copy of a Microsoft NT manual while chanting, 'I must endeavour to
improve my English grammar', this evening.
On a similar note. It's with considerable distress I note the increase
in the confusion over the use of a and an. I personally blame the
influence of those who gave us such things as grey squirrels, rainbow
trout, signal crayfish, Microsoft and of coarse that master of the
English language George double-ya Bush. All things which have a
detrimental effect on the British people and our countryside. I'm sure
there is a rule which describes when a or an should be used along the
lines of 'use an before a word starting with a vowel' or similar. This,
however, is beyond the grade 2 CSE English I achieved in 1980, perhaps
you could advise?
Finally, for your efforts and due diligence above and beyond the call
of duty, may I make so bold as to suggest your status within the LUG be
elevated to that of 'Apostropher Royal'. All in favour say Aye!
Yours, tongue firmly in cheek.
