Mooters

The Holbrook Club (were the moots are held) has asked me to pass on that
the club's Executive Committee has recently decided that a temporary
smoking ban will be introduced within the buildings of the Club, which
will become effective from Monday 24th April 2006 (the week of our next
moot). This temporary smoking ban will be in place at least until the
Club’s Annual General Meeting scheduled for Tuesday 2nd May 2006.

The Club’s Executive Committee deemed it appropriate to introduce a
temporary smoking ban in order to protect the Club’s investment in its
forthcoming refurbishment project which is scheduled to commence on
Monday 10th April and be completed by Friday 28th April.

The refurbishment project will feature brand new carpet, curtains, bench
seating, furniture, air conditioning units, an additional big screen TV
etc. The temporary smoking ban may well become a permanent smoking ban
following the Club’s Annual General Meeting. This will, of course, be
entirely dependant upon the result of the votes cast leading up to and
including the Annual General Meeting.

A member survey regarding the issue of smoking was conducted towards the
latter part of last year with the result that clearly indicated that the
majority of members were in favour of introducing a complete smoking ban
within the Club’s buildings. However, the Executive Committee will not
determine the Club’s official policy until all the votes have been cast
and the result formally announced at the Annual General Meeting.

If a permanent smoking ban is introduced, smoking will still be
permitted outside the Club buildings, i.e. towards the rear of the Club
on the patio area under the existing veranda. Smoking will also be
permitted at the front of the Club immediately outside the members bar
on the patio area. In both of these scenarios smoking outside the Club
will be in accordance with the Club’s Bye Laws and the Premises License
as issued by the local authority.
