[Sussex] File Size Limit

I bought an external hard disk which is ready to use with USB connection.
All is fine except that when I try to store the DVD iso of 4.3gig it is 
apparently truncated to 4gig.
I believe that this is a Windows partition file size limit problem.
Presumably I should be reformatting to ext2/ext3 and I assume that that 
will answer the problem.
Some clarification/knowledge of the limits would be very helpful.
