Thank you Kenny for those references. My external drive is now formatted as ext3 and the DVD isos are no longer truncated. I have no need to use the drive under Windows and in any case the large DVD iso CANNOT be written using Windows because it exceeds 4gig. Just another, rather unexpected, reason to move away from MS.
