My experience of gtkpod is that it was *almost* brilliant...

When it works, it does things very well (it handles video much better than
the official iTunes code), but it had the annoying tendency to unmount the
iPod mid-way through some big transfers. Undaunted, it then writes any
remaining files all over the mount point :-(

I should probably mention that I'm using v0.99.2 - I don't know how
up-to-date that is.
