[Sussex] debian control panel

I have 2.4.27 kernel and the message I have from doing
#apt-get install kernel-image | 2.6 is
#bash 2.6: command not found.
I have started in recovery mode and entered root password.
I should get the 2.6 kernel in with source before I attempt the nvidia
setup again
