Might be overkill, but I use dbmail (www.dbmail.org) which is an
IMAP/POP3 daemon that uses mysql or postgresql for back end mail
storage. Works very well, is as fast as your mysql installation, and
set up is very easy. I use postfix to pipe mail into via a little
script.
