Linux is extremely flexible and therefore I see LUGs as not focused
on any narrow aspect. There is also a lot of overlap with
philosophical and political matters such as intellectual property,
DRM, civil liberties and globalisation.

That we can come together and discuss such things and Linux's place
in them is the value I see.

Note that all LUGs are different. Some are just an excuse to have a
few beers and chat about Linux and computers, others have regular
schedules meetings with talks and presentations, committees and a
constitution. Neither kind can be said to be objectively "better",
so not only is Linux a thing of many qualities but also its
community is quite diverse too.

I appreciate both the technical superiority (in my job, in my
technical hobbies) of Linux and the ethical and philosophical
ramifications of free software. They do not always go hand in hand,
nor even sometiems play nice, but I'm glad both are represented to
some extent.

Cheers,
Andy
