Its very disturbing to find your ZIP disks no longer read in the drive.
I've had a couple with click of death.

Perhaps a firewire solution? A supported card (like the AFW4300 at around
£26), external caddy (from £24) and standard 250GB IDE drive (around £50)
would give you an external drive at sustained speed of 400Mbps.
