[Sussex] can't get Democracy to install correctly

Hi all,
I tried installing the Democracy video player today in Ubuntu and got an
error that a dependency isn't met. This is apparently a known problem so I
used the --force-all switch to get it installed and it worked fine. The
trouble is I then get an error saying that there is a problem with my
installed packages and have to run apt-get install -f to fix it, which
removes the democracy player.
Is there any way of resolving this issue or is there an alternative app that
does the same job?
many thanks
