Great presentation, more later (me, toppost? Never!)

I would say "greetings from Edinburgh/EDLUG" at this point, except I'm back
in Horsham for a flying visit until Monday. I'm still enjoying reading the
SLUG list and it's nice to see things are going well, except for a few blips
with the Worthing BCF.

Anyway, it's a shame I missed this presentation, it looks good on Dom's blog
and was an interesting read. I've just started blogging this year, I've
been dragging my heels a bit even though my girlfriend's been badgering me
to join her in the world of RSS and trackbacks for years. A particularly
interesting bit of Dom's presentation was the different types of bloggers.
I think I'm going down the multi-modal route and doing a bit of all types, a
little bit of ego, a bit of waffle and a bit of Linux.

I've decided to blog about Linux and the OSS that I use and why it's
cool/timesaving and also how I got it to work. I think that's important, I
can't remember how many times Google has saved my arse and often that
critical hint about an obscure bug was found in a list archive or
linuxquestions.org thread. The more useful snippets of information that
make it onto the web the more likely people will be able to make their thing
work, and that means they'll be more likely to actually use OS further and
feel it's a safer prospect.

I'm planning to detail my progress setting up a MythTV box as I go along as
I've already found useful stuff in other blogs that will make my setup that
bit more painless.

If anyone's interested, I'll join Dom and Steve and pimp my blog (five posts
and not counting!):
http://eggfriedrice.com

I'll probably also complain a lot about the number 5 Lothian buses service
being crap (but feel free to ignore those posts...)

I was interested to read a bit ago about Steve's suggestion of cross
pollinating LUGs with visits from other groups, I think it's a great idea
and, if you're interested, I could maybe come along to a moot later in the
year when I'm down and do a little talk about how EDLUG works. I'm not sure
how it would go but if there's any interest I'll try and work something out.

Anyway, I'll return to lurking. Big brother is watching!

Al
