Depends. If the case is super-specialised with regards to airflow, then
you might need to. For every case I've ever seen, it doesn't really
matter. In fact, it'll probably help the airflow.

No hosting provider I've ever dealt with has ever cared about this. My
colo system is essentially 7 systems using Xen.
Colo providers charge you by:
* Physical space (1U in this case)
* Power draw (0.5A is typical in London, slightly higher elsewhere)
* Network Switch Ports
So you might have to pay for a bit more power use (and maybe a
seperate power feed if the two systems are truly independent - could
be good to get it off the second phase if the colo provider supports
this, to provide some level of redundancy). You'll probably also need
to pay for another switch port if you need it.
While I'm on the subject - anyone wanna buy a 1U server? ;)
