You could also argue that there are relatively few Linux users
anywhere in the world, the 200 pound gorilla that is the Microsoft's
user base is are hard nut to crack.

If you are going to a community to ask for their opinion then shouldn't
you do so in a a manor that is acceptable to that community? Asking for
off-list replies is not acceptable to me and to others.

I once opinioned that those that asked questions were a drain on the
community. I was wrong. It was pointed out to me that the questions
being asked were a valuable source of information to those that compiled
the FAQs, a point I had completely overlooked. So I ask you, why
should the opinions you seek not be done on-list? A discussion between
two other list members may be enlightening to you and you would not get
that correspondence if the other members were only communicating with you.

So if you would like my opinion on Linux Certification then I suggest
that you rephrase your original posting in a manor that is acceptable to
me. That would include:

  1). Not requesting off-list replies.
  2). A proper subject [1].
3). A full explanation of why you are looking for these opinions
and what you intend to do with them [2].

[1] If you had taken the trouble to look at the archives, or waited
for a post or two to observe the protocols of the list (as suggested
by netiquette), you would have seen that the text "[Surrey]" is added
to the start of the subject line and there was no need to title your
post after the list you submitted it to.

[2] There is a little voice in the back of my mind that is saying that
you are some kind of marketeer and that you want these opinions
for your marketing purposes. I have seen a number of requests of
his kind over the years, mostly from students doing research for
    a thesis.

The ones I have responded to have always given full disclosure of
the intended purposes. I find that both polite and helpful as I
am able to tailor my response appropriately. The fact that you may
want to use my opinions commercial will not necessarily prohibit
    me from making them.
