My choice is Mandriva, I use the full version, (4.3GB on the DVD) which 
combined with VLC does just about anything you can throw at it. I tend 
to add lame as well as a few other small programs for users. And then 
you can add lots of programs in addition to the vast coverage already 
provided by Mandriva.
And these days it really is quite easy to install.
