[Sussex] iTunesDB contents is empty

I have been managing my iPod on Mandriva with Banshee software, no problems
until the other day

the iPod shows up twice in the 'devices plugged in' widget and will not show
up in Dolphin file manager until a couple of attempts have been made

on looking in the ipod_control folder I have discovered the iTunesDB
contents have been erased, so although the music files are still there (24Gb
of them) nothing will read them and of course the iPod will not play
anything because it thinks there are no tracks on it!!

is there any way of rebuilding the iTunesDB so that I don't have to restore
it and start my music collection all over again?

I have posted on various iPod and the Banshee forums, but have had no advice
over the last few days

thanks
