Hi Steve,

You say you you omitted the transistors ... are you sure you can get away
with this? LEDs need a reasonable bit of current to drive them ... can the
PIC outputs sink that much current directly? The transistors may well be
needed as amplifiers. And the transistors, depending on type, likely invert
the logic for you so if driving direct the software may need to drive in the
opposite sense.
