It appears that the nVidia Linux driver version 180.44 finally supports SLi on 
mobile GPUs:

stephen at XPS-M1730 ~ $ glxgears
85622 frames in 5.0 seconds = 17124.246 FPS
86158 frames in 5.0 seconds = 17231.528 FPS
86225 frames in 5.0 seconds = 17244.893 FPS
86162 frames in 5.0 seconds = 17232.324 FPS
86141 frames in 5.0 seconds = 17228.076 FPS

Previous was around 3,000 for some reason.
