[Sussex] receiving MMS from phone

Hello,

I'm trying to get my head around this. I'm looking for a way to take SMS
and MMS from a GSM phone or 3G datacard so I can parse it on a computer.

I want to receive a MMS message and extract its contents into a database
then return a confirmation SMS back to the sender.

I've found SMS gateways but they seem overcomplicated for what I need.
Does anyone have any ideas?
