The next Sussex LUG moot is Thursday 26th June (always the last  
Thursday in the month).

What sort of numbers would induce your friend to offer his talk?

We had a room full for previous talks, for example:
CLI by Steve Dobson
Digital music creation by Gavin Stevens
"Linux as a developer's environment" by Dominic
"Introducing free software to beginners in computing" by Gavin
"mapping tools and methods and real-life practical applications, such  
as the relief effort in Haiti" by Saber

I'll open up a thread to collect names early.

Would it be okay if you could ask your friend to provide a brief  
outline of the intended talk?
