SuSE 11.0 is very old, and well past EOL. So I'd recommend upgrading
to openSUSE 13.1, which is now pretty stable. You might have to
upgrade to an intermediate version first (eg 12.3), to make the
upgrade path run smoother. Nevertheless, you will notice some big
changes, depending on which desktop you run. (eg KDE3 -> KDE4)
Where are you based? I'm in Henfield, and if you're not too far, I'd
be happy to help with the upgrade if you wanted to go down that route.
Just reply off-list.

I'm not sure what's happening here. The host name, which is just a
name for your computer, is stored in the file /etc/HOSTNAME in an
openSUSE system. As root, you can edit that file's contents to
anything you like. I usually change it to something more meaningful,
like my house name.

Unless you know that there is a very important, unsaved document that
you were working on in OpenOffice, I would think it would do no harm
to close any running instances of OpenOffice.
