[SWLUG] networking nightmare

I seem to remember installing a 3COM network card in a Windows machine a
while back that had both BNC and RJ45. It came with an installation floppy
(you dont expect Windows to get it right do you) which I had to boot from.
It started a program (similar to the BIOS) which ....
asked whether the network card should use the BNC, RJ45 .
Is this the problem? do you need to somehow set the firmware on the board to
recognise the RJ45 port?
Just my 2p worth.
