Thanks for the responses.
I'll try to summarise.
1. Complaints about everything cramming onto 3 lines: It was a cut and paste from a text file and looked OK when I sent it. Blame Bill Gates for that one!
2. RAM on my Linux box: 256MB.
3. Ethernet card on my Linux box: Sitecom - from Maplin.
4. FAT 16/32 - run Drive Space 3 to convert from FAT 16 to FAT 32. It's dead easy and should cause no problems. Alternatively, format the hard drive from DOS but use a calculator and all the Format parameters. I've formatted floppy disks to FAT 4 for fun.
5. SME Linux is a bit broken - Shh - don't let the guys at e-smith.org hear you say that. Personally, I think it was stuffed before it was even written!
6. Laptop for checking/adjusting my NIC. Thatks, Telsa.
7. Red Hat. My Linux box runs a CD unit. I don't actually posess a DVD drive.
Now - a question: How do I recognise everybody at the Goose? Is it a case of a red carnation in the lapel and one trouser leg lifted to the knee and a funny handshake? ;)
