[SWLUG] problem withPOP3 with Kmail

Can anyone solve this one for me?

I am using SUSE 9.0 I use Kmail for email. Quite often when I switch the 
machine on Kmail refuses to get the mail for a while giving the message
"could not start process pop3"

It seems to work after a while, but this is quite some time not just a minuite 
or two.

Any one know what is up?
