greetings,

http://www.voip-info.org/tiki-index.php?page=Asterisk%20setup%20minimum

it should be able to run on anything, notice the link at the bottom
to the xboxpbx, i picked an xbox up before christmas for just under
a hundred quid, chipping it was about 20quid though.

i've 3 boxes running asterisk now around the place, adding another one
next week, IAX connections between them and SIP for devices. the first
3 are all 2.4ghz celerons with 256mb and 40gb discs, you can build
them even in a 1u rackmount case for 249gbp.

even though none of them have direct connections to the POTS network
and I get calls in and out placed via external I providers - I still
put a single X100P PSTN card in them, this helps with the clocking, as
I'm not to keen on the zap dummy driver.

on ebay there are some nice compaq sff (small form factor) units that
you can pick up for around 90quid, these are usually low end p3's or
p2's. they are great boxes.

good luck on your quest.
