Having looked at the ultra-mini laptops on
http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/notebooks/0,39023986,39023986t-30000017c-1,00.htm?SEARCH_VAL%5B%5D=any&ATTRIB_IDS%5B%5D=39000911&SUB_ATTRIB_IDS%5B%5D=1&SEARCH_VAL%5B%5D=any&ATTRIB_IDS%5B%5D=39000912&SUB_ATTRIB_IDS%5B%5D=1&SEARCH_VAL%5B%5D=any&ATTRIB_IDS%5B%5D=107&SUB_ATTRIB_IDS%5B%5D=1&SEARCH_VAL%5B%5D=any&ATTRIB_IDS%5B%5D=108&SUB_ATTRIB_IDS%5B%5D=1&SEARCH_VAL%5B%5D=%3C+1+kg&ATTRIB_IDS%5B%5D=117&SUB_ATTRIB_IDS%5B%5D=1&SEARCH_VAL%5B%5D=any&ATTRIB_IDS%5B%5D=119&SUB_ATTRIB_IDS%5B%5D=1&SEARCH_VAL%5B%5D=any&ATTRIB_IDS%5B%5D=39000914&SUB_ATTRIB_IDS%5B%5D=1&x=20&y=9

and seeing how tiny the keyboards are, I am reminded
of the tiny little 486 that somebody brought to a
meeting when we were in the pub currently known as
SA1. That was about the size of a paperback and the
keys/screen were so tiny that it was an interesting
gizmo but hardly practical.

Looking at

It seems that only the IBM X40 seems suitable. I keep
coming back to this one although I find it's a bit on
the big side. I was really looking for something about
8 x 6 rather than 10 x 8.

I appreciate Gareth's suggestion on having a second
battery. I like to keep things simple though - one
battery but a good battery. I note that the standard
Dell battery lasts about 2 hours. There is however a
bigger battery that allegedly lasts longer. One would
hope that it would last twice or three times as long.

Interestingly, I contacted IBM as they're supporters
of Linux but they only sell the X40 with XP installed.
