Depends what you want to do with it, really :)

gpsdrive is a good piece of software if you're thinking of using the GPS
while connected to a laptop and want road directions spoken to you, or
similar;

kflog is good if you're a glider pilot and want to log where you've been
flying;

gpsman is a GUI that lets you get data from the GPS, possibly to it
(I've not used this);

gpstrans is a tool for getting Garmin data to/from your GPS (again, I've
not used this)
