[SWLUG] Decent alarm program?

I am looking for something that can pop reminders up on the screen to remind 
me that a certain time has arrived.

The sort of thing I am looking for is something that reminds me to check the 
stove/oven etc to prevent me burning my supper because I am coding away at an 
interesting problem ans have lost count of the passage of time.
