Hiya,
I'm glad your cable works :) and I wouldn't recommend going back to that
place as the attractive young girl no longer works there any more. But, the
good news is she may be working in a place in Talbot Green when it opens
sometime before Christmas (its where Nick Davies the estate agent was).

Yes. The first two cables they made me were wired incorrectly, and the
manager refused to believe it. He said "we make ours different to
everyone else so we can tell they are ours". He then proceeded to
demonstrate a complete lack of understanding of why it's important the
TX pins and the RX pins should have their own twisted pair each. The
way they wired the cables, pins 3&4 were on a pair, and pins 5&6 on a
different pair, so the two RX conductors were on different pairs. I
made mention of 568A and 568B, but it went right over his head, and he
got stroppy.
The bit that made me laugh was when he said "I've been making cables
for 15 years". I guess that means he's been making them wrong for that
time.
Anyhow, they didn't work properly. Fortunately, a (very attractive)
young girl who worked at the shop made me one my way, and it's fine,
but it took three trips and two days to get there.
Regards,
Glenn.
