[SWLUG] Looking for job as a Linux admin

Hi,

let me introduce myself. My name is Matěj Cepl and I am a Czech student
currently in Boston, MA. After my attempt to get PhD in sociology /
criminology here in the States fall through, I would like to switch gears
and just do something to provide for my family. Our plan would be to
resettle either to UK or Ireland. The thing which I would be interested in
is working as a Linux administrator or something of that sort.

The problem is that I have no credentials from any computer-related program,
because I haven't participated in any computer-related training and learned
everything myself. On the other hand I have been using solely Linux for all
my computing purposes (except when on computer of somebody else) since at
least 2000, I have been running a home network for couple years (until
Verizon DSL here got so cheap that we don't need a home server any more),
and I believe that I am able to learn anything computer/Linux-related
pretty fast.

Therefore, my question is whether you would be able to suggest any ways how
to find any Linux system/network admin work. Nothing fancy, just to make
ends meet for me and my family, and with an opportunity to go further.

I thought about some temp job agencies (are these things done in
Europe---here it is pretty common and pretty much the best way how I could
get some more advanced jobs?). Any other ideas, please?

My resume is on http://matej.ceplovi.cz/drobky/resume-comp.pdf

If anybody has any comments on the resume, on possible strategies how to
find such a job, or even about to suggest any particular job :-), please,
let me know.

Also, what are your opinions on Linux certifications -- do you think, it
could be useful in my situation? Local people (in Boston) were rather
skeptical, whether anybody takes them seriously.

Thanks in advance for any reply,

Matěj Cepl

P.S.: Sorry for spamming six lists at once, but I haven't found any
centralized UK English Linux list, and I am not that picky about precise
location, where I would find a job.
