Also there is *generally* more on the TV so people may be inclined to
stay in and watch their regular programmes (or whatever movie is on)
rather than go out.  Not forgetting the busy aspect Dave mentioned.
How about Match Day?  Usually a weekend.  Football or Rugby, the city
centre, especially the pubs, is (are?) bound to be chocked with
supporters.
