[SWLUG] How d'you turn off or wake from sleep/suspend/hibernate/etc. on Fedora 8

Hi,

I installed Fedora 8 KDE spin on my desktop machine last week and for
the first time since I left the machine unattended for more than half an
hour... I returned to find it in some kind of sleep state. Moving the
mouse & pressing the keyboard did not resume so I had to switch off and
then on again.

How can I switch off this kind of thing---or how can I wake up the
system if it does this?
