Well, I've gone back to basics a bit and I'm using the following:
http://pastebin.com/m640e52c5
Just to try and get my 24" going with out the dual screen. But no luck what
so ever, everytime I put that modeline in there, it won't parse the xorg.conf
file and I have to put the comment back in. Even if it just says "1920x1200".
Oddly enough my old monitor, the 19" which never used to go beyond 1280x990 on
Hardy, now configures perfectly. Is there some kind of information file
somewhere which gets the config for that? Could I get the config of this
monitor added so that it autodetects properly. I can't wait 6 months for the
next version of Ubuntu to fix this.
I know that xorg is moving towards automatic configuration and wondered if that
had something to do with it.

=====================================================
could just be that your modelines are too detailed... My section of xorg.conf
just goes:
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Device0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "832x824" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
You could try something similar, if you haven't already...
or try making it set itself up.
$ sudo bash
# X -configure (If I remember correctly)
What happens when you try that auto-generated file (it gets saved in your
root's home dir)?

As I'm getting no answers on ubuntuforums.org, I'm wondering if there
are any
people handy with xorg configurations.
I'm trying to setup my new 24" monitor with a 1920x1200 resolution as
a
primary and my old 19" monitor as a secondary twinview display. But I
can't
get the 24" monitor past 1920x1080. It works find under XP. Any idea
why?
Can anyone massage my xorg.conf into life? Everytime I change it manually, I
get parse errors.
xorg.config at pastebin:

If someone can help, I'd really appreciate it. I'll buy you beer in
Cardiff on
Wednesday if you are there!
Cheers,
Matt
