that's probably why software occasionally 'phones home'. you break the agreement with them or it's not legit and they have the right to stop you from using it, too. Microsoft being a good example. the Kindle is different for now (?), but get the user/owner to periodically login to their Amazon account (part of Kindle's appeal is when moving/synchronising between devices) and they could try and stop you using it or buying new books. don't think it's *that* difficult. whether or not it breaks their model for the devices is another matter. it's probably on their horizon. hey ho. like most things it would just go down the cat & mouse route like software, consoles, phones, etc.
