[Swlug] Raspberry Pi and Python - just a hello.

I've been out of coding for a long time. Just got a Raspberry Pi and some gubbins with the aim of using Python and the gubbins to make the Pi physically do interesting stuff. 
In detail - I walked away from coding in around 2008 (external pressures) and I've been playing around with Python when I get the time (busy and exhausting word schedule during term times (4:30am alarm, start work 6am. Finish work for the day 4:30pm) A couple of gaps in the middle that I generally have to allocate for napping and eating. I have the Pi and various hats and boards for the GPIO. 
At the moment I have absolutely nobody around me that has any interest in coding etc to bounce ideas off. I might have some bloody stupid-sounding questions to ask and hope to find answers as I (glacially slowly) work toward my goals. The goals will change over time as the project progresses.
For my first inane question... Some of the boards I have have sample code solely in C++. As the vast majority of boards use Python it seems a better idea to use Python to do the coding. I do have background in C++/Delphi/Cobol/Basic. How do I use the C++ libraries from Python?
20 years ago I used to go to the SWLUG meetings in Wind St in Swansea but that's quite a commute for me right now as I'm located right now in South Carolina.
