It very largely depends upon the master done instance. Some instances are very highly censored while others have no censorship whatsoever. The instance I am using senses heavily anything questioning the global warming hype or anything perceived as challenging the transgender hype. It is eminently possible to set up your own instance. Raspberry did it and run it on a Raspberry Pi 4B. The only necessary thingcs are an internet connection, the domain name and a computer. Then you have to get the domain name to point to the computer which could be challenging. It is eminently possible for a home user to set up their own instance with themselves as the only user. That might be my eventual aim. The downside is that admins on other instances might just block your instance, particularly if you overuse do not align with their Rose tinted view of things.
