I thought about the external timer and realised I have a pile of 555 timer chips. I also have presets so my thought process is to put together a very fast metronome circuit that has a 1 millisecond pulse then to try to count the pulses via the Pico. Of course I'm holding off on the 555 circuit until the frequency counter kit arrives. Once that's assembled I can work on the 555 and make sure I have the right frequency.

As always it's a case of waiting for bits to arrive. The frequency counter should get here Monday. The problem is by the time stuff arrives I have usually moved on to something else. I made a big effort to get a pile of different bits and bobs so that I should have everything and be able at least to get some progress before the start of the next school year.

I'm beginning to see why so many YouTube robotics people use 3D printers to make their things. Some use Lego Technic. I have not seen many using Meccano which would be the obvious choice.
