Hi all,
I have just found SWLUG and signed up to the mailing list.
I'm a self employed web developer living in Cardiff, and although I use
Windows 10 for desktop and laptop, I do use Linux for development server
to match (sort of) the live environments.
This is actually a Hyper-V virtual PC running CentOS 7 server with
OpenLiteSpeed and MySQL 8. It has to be CentOS 7 rather than AlmaLinux
8 because it needs to run some older PHP versions (down to 7.0) which
OpenLiteSpeed doesn't support on RHEL 8 and compatible versions.
So I am a somewhat lightweight Linux user but still interested.
I was actually a member of the Hereford LUG over a decade ago when I
lived there, but with various moves and life events my LUG membership
lapsed. It was actually a Facebook Memory of a Software Freedom Day
event that Hereford LUG did in 2010 that prompted me to look for a LUG
here in Cardiff.
I started coding in Basic when I was a teenager back in the early 80s on
the various computers available at the time (initially a ZX81, then a
Commodore 64 and finally a BBC model B) before getting my first PC and a
copy of QuickBasic 4.5, so have been interested in computers and coding
for decades.
Anyway hopefully I will meet some of you at the next Cardiff meeting and
follow some interesting discussions here.
Cheers,
Paul
