Thanks for you offer of help. I'll rerun the process in the next day or
two and send you the output.
Meantime, I picked a a distro called UBUNTU V6 which installed without
any problems and works very well indeed. But I still want to get the
hang of installing and trouble shooting drivers for which I will
continue to use Debian.
Back to you shortly, regards, Walt

Walt,
Never used Debian, but post the instructions and I will try and explain
in English.
Also, post the output of: ifconfig -a
Have you checked the output of dmesg for any interface errors on boot?

Hello,
I need some help installing the driver for a ethernet adapter.
Debian
31r1 (I have tried 31r3 but that crashes on boot) installs fine
and
detects the adapter corectly as RTL8169SC Gibabit but then
cannot see
the network.
I have downloaded the Realtek Linux driver for this adapter but,
being a
Linux newbie, I'm lost as to how to install it. The installation
instructions are cryptic to say the least.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
