Quoting error on my behalf, (quoted too much) sorry. Dianne claimed XP
isn't supported, yet it is. Unfortunately I think the biggest problem is
tribalism. If you want to show people something new, do so. It took me a
long time to venture into Linux because people were concentrating too
much why Windows was bad, not why Linux was good.

My opinions on building computers differ. People don't want desktop
machines. The only justification is that they're cheaper, and play
high-end games better. Laptops are what the people want. Tablet
computers like the iPad are growing in sales. Netbooks are selling
extremely well. Desktops are still used by businesses, but whole
machines are replaced as soon as one breaks. Very few people are
interested in the learning process of building a computer because
there's too little to benefit from. The same cycle happens with all
forms of technology.

Hi,
So ... are you out to promote Linux or uncover the mysteries of the
innards of a pc? Also, why Ubuntu. I know it is a lot easier to use
now, but others come better prepared for a complete newbie. PCLinuxOS
is very popular and SimplyMepis is mentioned is LinuxFormat this month,"
If you think Ubuntu is the easiest desktop distro around you've obviously
not used this one. It has loads of custom tools and is stuffed with
proprietary drivers, codecs and software to give you the smoothest
Linux desktop experience possible."

Anyone new to Linux doesn't want commandline, they want a straight out
of the box experience that is intuitive and similar to windows so it
isn't too difficult to adapt to (IMHO).

Sorry if I have the wrong end of the stick here.

Sharon
