Hi Ad,
These days you can get R9500 Pro 128MB versions for as little as
=A3100, if you go to www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk ,e-mail them and say
you know me and I sent you there they might give you a discount (still
buy with them IMO if you don't get a discount, one of the best people
out there). If it is a high end system have a look at some of the
NVIDIA GF-FX series, I have seen some GeForce FX 5800's around for =
=A3300,
GeForce 4's are a bit outdated (just), if you want to save money go for
a Radeon, performance/price this is the best on Radeons compared to GFs.

Subject: [Wolves] Anyone well into graphics cards?
Reply-To: wolves@mailman.lug.org.uk
Alright, this is perhaps more of a hardware question
than a Linux one, but...
I'm building myself a high end workstation cum low end
server and have chosen most of my parts.
The one thats stumped me though is a graphics card.
Thats the one thing I don't know enough about. From
what I can gather ATI Radeon seems to have the edge on
nVidia at the mo, but all those models have me
fried... I remember Leo going on about graphics and
performance once if he's still out there.
What I'm looking at is:
AGP 8x, no more than =A3150 (less would be nice),
doesn't have to be top of the range or even second as
I don't play that many games, bit of Quake 3, UT and
Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Linux compatible
obviously.
I know I would be ok with a TNT2 but you don't put a
Mini engine in Mercedes do you?
So far I'm torn between:
128Mb ATI Radeon 9500 Pro Retail x8 AGP DDR/DVI/TV Out
(newer but fewer extras) and=20
64Mb ATI Radeon 9000 Pro All In Wonder ViVo/TV Out
(older but more stuff built in ie MPEG-2 capture on
fly etc).
Has anyone got any better suggestions? Or places I
should look?
Thanks,
Ad

Use Linux. Because it's better.
